Hello, I’m Mark Boyd
A qualified guide, trained ecologist and an award-winning photographer, my heart beats for sustainable tourism and connecting people to the wonders of our natural world. Schooled at Eton and with a degree in Ecology from Durham University, I first worked as a climate change scientist before leaving the UK to pursue my love for a wilder, more connected life. I followed in the footsteps of my father and grandfather in the East African safari industry, growing roots and eventually making Kenya my permanent home.
I have run some of the world’s leading luxury safari lodges and camps, as well as running sustainability for the most prestigious safari company in East Africa – this, includes 6 years as the Director of the Footprint Foundation and Director of Sustainability at The Safari Collection. I now design and guide safaris all over East Africa, including: Kenya, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Congo. My proficiency in luxury travel, my strong ethos for sustainability, along with my extensive knowledge of the landscape, wildlife and cultures of East Africa ensure that my clients have both an unforgettable and meaningful experience. I count myself incredibly lucky to have a strong connection to the Samburu community, with the great privilege of being a “Nkiyeu” (or godfather) to two boys following their coming-of-age ceremonies, helping guide them as young warriors as they begin their adult lives.
I've always believed that when passion and purpose collide – magical things happen – evident in the wide selection of incredible adventures and expeditions I have the privilege of being able to curate. I am dedicated to ensuring that everyone who travels with me has a life-changing experience and leaves with a newfound appreciation for the wonders of the wild, a deeper understanding of our connection and dependence on ecosystems, regardless of where we come from, and a reverence for the indigenous cultures that call these ancient landscapes home.
